The Meaning of Life Without God
Core Argument
If the universe is purely material with no designer and no purpose, where does life's meaning come from? Atheistic existentialism acknowledged this predicament — Sartre said 'existence precedes essence,' Camus called life absurd. But their 'solution' — creating your own meaning — faces a fundamental problem: if the universe itself has no meaning, how can you create genuine meaning within it? Self-assigned meaning is merely sophisticated self-deception. Tolstoy described in 'A Confession' his existential crisis: despite literary achievement, family happiness, and wealth, the question of 'life's meaning' nearly drove him to suicide. He ultimately found his answer in Christian faith — not through abstract philosophy but through personal relationship with the living God. Christianity offers a grounded view of meaning: humans were purposefully created by a personal God, given specific mission (love God, love people) and eternal hope. This meaning isn't self-invented but discovered — you don't 'invent' your life's purpose but 'discover' the purpose your Creator gave you. Moreover, Christian hope transcends personal death and cosmic ending: God promises 'a new heaven and new earth' (Revelation 21:1) where 'there will be no more death or mourning or crying.' This isn't escapism but ultimate reality — if Christ rose, this hope has historical evidence backing it.
