Shincheonji Church of Jesus was founded by Korean Lee Man-hee in 1984. The organization claims Revelation's prophecies have 'actually fulfilled' in Lee and Shincheonji — Lee is the 'overcomer' of Revelation 2-3, the only one who can unseal Revelation, and Shincheonji's 144,000 will form the eschatological spiritual Israel. The core problem is extreme allegorical private interpretation. Every Revelation image is assigned a specific real-world correspondence: 'sun' means a particular pastor, 'stars' mean certain believers. Yet as Gordon Fee and Douglas Stuart stress in 'How to Read the Bible for All Its Worth,' the primary interpretive principle is respecting original context and genre — apocalyptic literature's symbolic language doesn't mean meanings can be arbitrarily assigned. Grant Osborne's Revelation commentary notes proper interpretation must consider OT background, first-century context, and genre features. Lee's hermeneutics completely abandons these principles. Furthermore, Shincheonji is notorious for covert infiltration — members are trained to conceal their Shincheonji identity and infiltrate orthodox churches for 'harvesting' (recruitment), a deceptive practice that itself violates Scripture's honesty principle (Eph 4:25).
