But Scripture clearly teaches Jesus is God: John 1:1 'the Word was God,' Thomas declared to the risen Jesus 'My Lord and my God' (John 20:28), Isaiah 9:6 calls the Messiah 'Mighty God.' The JW's New World Translation renders John 1:1 as 'the Word was a god,' but this is grammatically untenable in Greek. Colwell's Rule indicates that preverbal anarthrous predicate nominatives are typically definite, so the text means 'the Word was God,' not 'a god.' Virtually all mainstream Greek scholars reject the Watchtower translation. Denying Christ's deity has fatal soteriological consequences. If Jesus were merely created, He could not provide sufficient atonement for all humanity's infinite sin-debt — only the infinite God can pay an infinite price. Isaiah 43:11 declares 'besides me there is no savior,' while the NT calls Jesus Savior (Titus 2:13) — consistent only if Jesus is God. The Watchtower has also severely damaged its credibility through multiple failed end-times predictions (1914, 1925, 1975, etc.). By the standard of Deuteronomy 18:21-22, the hallmark of a false prophet is unfulfilled prophecy.
