Whatever begins to exist has a cause. The universe began to exist (Big Bang). Therefore, the universe has a cause transcending time, space, and matter. This cause must be a personal being — God. The Kalam Cosmological Argument shows that an actually infinite regress of past events is logically impossible, requiring a first cause. William Lane Craig provides detailed defense of each premise in 'Reasonable Faith.' The first premise — 'Whatever begins to exist has a cause' — is foundational to daily experience and scientific inquiry. If things could spring uncaused from absolute nothing, anything could appear at any time — yet we never observe this. The second premise receives powerful cosmological support. The Big Bang indicates expansion from a singularity ~13.8 billion years ago. The BGV theorem (2003) proves any universe with average expansion rate > 0 must have a past spacetime boundary. Vilenkin stated: 'Cosmologists can no longer hide behind a past-eternal universe.' The Second Law of Thermodynamics concurs: an eternal universe would have reached heat death. From the conclusion we can deduce this cause's properties: timeless, spaceless, immaterial, enormously powerful, and personal (a timeless immaterial cause can only produce a temporally-begun effect through free will). These align with Christianity's Creator God. As Genesis 1:1 declares: 'In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.'
