Dietrich Bonhoeffer distinguished 'cheap grace' from 'costly grace.' Gospel grace is costly — its price was God's own sacrifice on the cross. But for recipients, it's entirely free — you don't need to and cannot earn it. This resolves humanity's deepest religious anxiety: Am I good enough? Have I done enough? The Gospel answers: it's not about your goodness but Christ's. Facing alternative offers from other religions and cults, Christians need both truthful conviction and loving attitude — 'always being prepared to give an answer with gentleness and respect' (1 Peter 3:15). The Gospel spreads not through coercion but through life witness and truth proclamation.
